Conexant Teams with Eldon to Provide Digital Television Adaptor Design Platform; New Platform Targeted for U.K. Free-to-Air Applications.

Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced that it has teamed with Eldon Technology Limited, a European electronics design firm and a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Communications Corp., to deliver a complete terrestrial digital video broadcast (DVB-T) design platform for Freeview digital television converters.

Freeview is a free digital television service that provides up to 30 TV and radio channels, as well as various interactive services in the United Kingdom (U.K.). The reference platform is based on Conexant integrated circuits and Eldon's Elgist software suite. A key feature of the software is an industry standard MHEG 5 (Multimedia and Hypermedia information coding Group) engine that enables interactive television applications.

The new platform includes Conexant's CX22490 interactive set-top box (STB) decoder and CX22702 DVB-T demodulator integrated circuits. The CX22490 is designed for STBs on interactive multi-channel television networks that require both advanced performance and low cost. The CX22702 is a highly integrated digital television demodulator/forward error correction solution for terrestrial DVB-T systems.

Elgist is an innovative and practical suite of software for use in integrated digital televisions (iDTVs), set-top boxes and digital television adaptors using various platforms. Elgist comprises a number of modules that can function with cross-platform applications, including common interface applications such as an electronic program guide and MHEG 5 applications, which enable other MHEG 5 applications to be accessed and downloaded.
