Conexant Earns AMP Gigabit Ethernet MT-RJ Transceiver Design Win; Custom VCSEL Driver Clinches AMP Product Design Win.

Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

NEWPORT BEACH Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center. Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2000

Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CNXT) Thursday announced it will supply its MC2046 postamplifier and custom vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) Pronounced "vixel." A type of laser diode that emits light from its surface rather than its edge. A VCSEL's circular beam is easy to couple with a fiber, and due to its surface-emission architecture, can be tested ) driver to Tyco Electronics Tyco Electronics was the largest unit of Tyco International Ltd., and the world's leading supplier of passive electronic components. On June 29, 2007 Tyco Electronics became a wholly independent publicly-traded company, along with Covidien, from the breakup of the Tyco conglomerate  Corp.'s Fiber Optic Division for use in Tyco's small form factor AMP MT-RJ MT-RJ Mechanical Transfer - Registered Jack  transceivers for Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  data communications applications.

The products were added to Conexant's portfolio with the company's January acquisition of Microcosm Communications, a leading developer of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for the fiber-optic market.

"Conexant's flexibility and willingness to develop a custom variation of VCSEL driver tailored to our specific needs demonstrates their continued commitment to Tyco Electronics. Our relationship with the company was built on a series of standard products and custom developments, which provide the low cost, short lead times and very small die size that we demand," said Rodd Ruland, director of marketing and business development for the Fiber Optic Division of Tyco Electronics.

"Conexant's proven track record of optimized performance and minimal lead times gives Tyco Electronics the confidence in knowing we've designed in products that beat expectations and provide fast time to market."

Conexant's 1.25 Gbps postamplifier, MC2046, and custom VCSEL driver are BiCMOS devices and allow operations at either 3.3 or 5-volts.

"This design win demonstrates our serious involvement with Tyco Electronics and their small form factor AMP MT-RJ Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver. We have contributed to Tyco's successful migration to a 2.0 Gbps platform," said Alistair Blaxill, worldwide director of marketing for Conexant's Network Access Division.

"Further, our willingness to develop a custom VCSEL driver solution shows our ability to differentiate products on their behalf. We look forward to continuing this commitment to Tyco Electronics."

Prior to its acquisition by Conexant, Microcosm Communications began its relationship with Tyco Electronics (then AMP) in 1995. Today, the company supplies many of their IC product range, including a standard MC2042 LED driver and a custom postamplifier for Tyco Electronics' 156 Mbps multimode transceiver family.

"The plan is to keep designing products tailored for Tyco Electronics' specific requirements and to provide them with competitive advantages as they continue their migration to faster data rates," added Blaxill.

"One major advantage is Conexant's in-house silicon germanium (SiGe) technology. We offer an eight-inch process with added CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  capability, giving us the lowest cost base in this segment of the fiber-optic networking marketplace for products with exceptionally high performance and low-power consumption."
