Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT) Monday announced that its AccessRunner(R) family of broadband ADSL modem chipsets now offers bus-powered USB support, which eliminates the need for an external power supply and provides a reduced-cost solution.

The first announced customers to use Conexant's multi-mode USB-ADSL AccessRunner solution will include: Digicom Systems, Inc., a leading global communication equipment supplier and a subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd.; Accton Technology Corp., a world-leading manufacturer in broadband networking equipment based in Taiwan; BeWAN Systems, a top European Internet access product manufacturer based in Paris; Mac System, a global player in the data communications marketplace based in the United States and Korea; OLITEC, a leading European modem and Internet appliance solution provider based in France; and Wong's Technology Ltd., a major modem and broadband solution provider and fully owned subsidiary of Wong's International (Holdings) Ltd. based in Hong Kong. (See Following Document for Customer Quotes About Conexant's AccessRunner Solution)

Conexant's AccessRunner USB-ADSL offering supports the full range of ADSL standards. Using Conexant's highly integrated solution, manufacturers can create a cost-effective USB-ADSL modem enabling up-to-8 Mbps Internet access over regular telephone lines, without the need for an external power supply.

The 1.5 Mbps G.lite standard is also supported, ensuring that AccessRunner can address the existing installed base of full-rate ADSL lines, as well as the future deployment of both full-rate and splitterless ADSL services.

With the addition of USB support, consumers will now be able to plug AccessRunner-based modem products directly into a desktop or notebook PC's USB port without having to open their PCs, install adapter cards or worry about which serial port or interrupt request (IRQ (Interrupt ReQuest) A hardware interrupt on a PC. There are 16 IRQ lines used to signal the CPU that a peripheral event has started or terminated. Except for PCI devices, two devices cannot use the same line. ) to use.

"We're extremely excited to see the growing customer momentum behind our USB-ADSL solution, which offers compelling benefits to modem manufacturers, end users and service providers alike," said Nick Burd, director of ADSL products for Conexant's Personal Computing Division.

"With its bus-powered USB support, our AccessRunner solution provides enhanced ease-of-use and simplified installation for customers. In addition, USB support will ease the provisioning of ADSL lines for service providers, which not only increases consumer satisfaction, but also facilitates servicing more ADSL subscribers."

The AccessRunner solution supports full-rate ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  T1.413 Issue 2, ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations.
