Conductive grades meet hazardous-use demands.

A new line of conductive thermoplastic A polymer material that turns to liquid when heated and becomes solid when cooled. There are more than 40 types of thermoplastics, including acrylic, polypropylene, polycarbonate and polyethylene.  compounds from RTP (1) (Rapid Transport Protocol) The protocol used in IBM's High Performance Routing (HPR) system.

(2) (Realtime Transport Protocol) An IP protocol that supports real time transmission of voice and video.
Co., Winona, Minn., meets the strict demands of Europe's ATEX Directive (94/9/EC) and EN 50014 standard. The regulations, which took effect in 2003, dictate that all new equipment and protective systems used in explosive or hazardous environments must meet certain requirements for electrical isolation, stability, and resistance to heat, flame, impact, and chemicals.

The new PermaStat compounds provide permanent static-dissipative behavior. One example, RTP 2500 PC/ABS PC/ABS Polycarbonate/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene , was developed for an ATEX-compliant personal dust monitor used in coal mines. Another grade, RTP 100 Series PP, is used to mold a flashlight which is used at hazardous sites. The latter compound had to be conductive enough to meet ATEX ATEX ATmosphere EXplosibles (French: Explosive Atmospheres)
