Concurrent Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:CCUR), the pioneer and market leader in North American commercial Video-On-Demand (VOD) deployments, continues to expand on its market leadership with the launch of its Personal TV (pTV(TM)) Solution, a robust and growing spectrum of completely integrated end-to-end interactive TV (iTV) applications.

Recognizing that television viewing is no longer one-dimensional, Concurrent is capitalizing on its leadership in the cable industry by continuing to build on its successful commercial VOD and subscription VOD (SVOD) launches, while pioneering a wealth of comprehensive pTV technologies, such as Personal Video Channel (pVC(TM)) and targeted and interactive advertising.

Concurrent's Personal TV (pTV) Solution

VOD and SVOD

Concurrent was the first to enable a personal viewing experience in both VOD and SVOD services. Concurrent supported the first commercial VOD deployment with Time Warner Cable's Oceanic Cable in Hawaii, and Concurrent continues to support the largest commercial VOD deployment in the world at Time Warner Cable's Tampa Bay Division. Concurrent has captured the leading market share of commercially launched VOD subscribers, with a total of 34 markets serving 9.3 million basic subscribers and 2.4 million digital subscribers. Concurrent has also announced SVOD trials and launches in Columbia, Myrtle Beach, and Summerville, S.C., and Cincinnati, Oh. Concurrent is now involved in multiple SVOD commercial trials and deployments with multiple operators in multiple markets.

Personal Video Channel (pVC)

Another pTV milestone inaugurated by Concurrent was the industry's first successful network-based personal video recording event that was accomplished through the utilization of Concurrent's pVC technology. With this technology, Time Warner Cable's Oceanic Cable subscribers were able to tune in, at their convenience, to championship boxing fights. The fights were available to subscribers as VOD time-shifted pay-per-view events, supported by Concurrent's MediaHawk(R) Video Server System. Subscribers could watch the events whenever they wanted, with complete VCR functionality -- pause, rewind, fast forward, and resume play. In addition, Concurrent's pVC technology allowed subscribers to enjoy the benefits of a personalized "instant replay."

Enabled by Concurrent's MediaHawk VOD System, pVC will allow viewers on-demand access of televised programs. The MediaHawk will record television events onto the network-based VOD system, providing subscribers with immediate access via existing digital set-top boxes, with VCR functionality. Subscribers will also be able to exit a recorded program stream to re-join its live broadcast. Concurrent currently has its pVC system installed at a top seven MSO corporate site.

Targeted and Interactive Advertising

With pTV, Concurrent cable partners not only have the foundation for VOD, SVOD and pVC, they also have an infrastructure in place for an additional return on investment through targeted advertising. Targeted advertising allows cable operators to extend their on-demand investment into cost-effective advertising by more accurately defining viewer demographics, and therefore "targeting" ads based on a history of viewer preferences and private subscriber profiles. Taken a step further, viewers will be given the opportunity to interact, in real-time, with the advertisements for more information and even ordering.

Concurrent has announced partnerships with Everstream for targeted and interactive advertising. The Everstream software enables Concurrent's pTV System and MediaHawk Video Server platform to provide advertising opportunities in real time to the multiple video streams it currently delivers on demand. Concurrent has also partnered with Navic Networks for targeted and interactive advertising, leveraging the addressable advertising capabilities of Navic's Settop Data Services (SDS) platform and the advanced interactive video technologies of Concurrent's MediaHawk system to provide powerful enhancements to the data transfer capabilities of existing set-top networks.
