Concourse Communications implements Wi-Fi at Baltimore/Washington airport.

Concourse Communications Group LLC, an operator of airport neutral-host wireless access systems and part of Boingo Wireless, announced on Wednesday (7 March) that the high-speed Wi-Fi network at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), in the US, is now operational in all secure areas of the airport.

Concourse said that it partnered with BAA Maryland, developer and manager of the AIRMALL at BWI, and the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) to install a fast neutral-host Wi-Fi network for BWI passengers and concessionaires. The network's coverage currently includes Concourses A, B, C, D and E of the BWI terminal and BAA Maryland's AIRMALL, while access in baggage claim and ticket counters is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2007.

The neutral-host network is reportedly designed to enable roaming access via existing partnerships, for example AT&T Wi-Fi, GoRemote, iPass or T-Mobile, to increase usage and maximize non-airline revenue. In addition travellers can purchase Internet access services in the airport from Boingo Wireless for USD7.95 per day. The day pass includes access to BWI and other North American Boingo Hot Spots for 24 hours. Boingo also offers a monthly account plan for USD21.95, which provides unlimited access to hotspots in North and South America, with access to hotspots in Europe and Asia provided for additional fees.
