Concorde-New Horizons Readies 20th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition of ``Piranha''.

Director Joe Dante and Producer Jon Davison Provide Commentary

on 1970s Classic Horror Film 

Concorde-New Horizons Corp. Wednesday announced the production of a special edition of "Piranha" available only on DVD scheduled for a fall release.

"Piranha" was originally released in theaters in 1978 by New World Pictures, and remains the highest-grossing feature film ever produced and distributed by Roger Corman.

The film launched the very successful careers of producer Jon Davison ("Robocop," "Top Secret!," "Airplane!" and "Starship Troopers") and director Joe Dante ("The Howling," "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Innerspace," "Gremlins" and "The 'Burbs"). The screenplay was written by award-winning writer John Sayles.

The DVD release includes: a special 90-minute commentary by Dante and Davison, never-before-seen bloopers from the film, and home movies taken during the filming of "Piranha."

Reprints of the original eight-page theatrical marketing brochure, along with a specially prepared booklet titled, "A History of Roger Corman and New Horizons," will be included with each disc, and available only through DVD purchase.

Concorde-New Horizons launched its DVD division this year with classic titles from its extensive film library including: "Death Race 2000," starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone; "Eat My Dust!" with Ron Howard and Howard's directorial debut, "Grand Theft Auto"; the classic horror film "Humanoids From The Deep"; and "Big Bad Mama" starring Angie Dickinson, Tom Skerritt and William Shatner.

Each Corman classic features a different interview with Corman by noted film critic Leonard Maltin. All films have been digitally remastered and include motion menus, trailers and biographies to take full advantage of DVD technology.

Also available on DVD from New Horizons are two early films that launched the career of popular actress Pam Grier: "The Big Doll House" and "The Arena." New titles released on DVD include a contemporary gothic horror, "Knocking on Death's Door," starring Kimberly Rowe and Brian Bloom; and the action film "Capitol Conspiracy," with Alexander Keith and Don "The Dragon" Wilson, who also headlines a special DVD Dragon Pack with three action features.
