Concert marks end of an era; Choral.IT IS proving to be an emotional few weeks for those associated with Holme Valley Holme Valley is a large civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 25,049 (2001 census). Its administrative centre is in Holmfirth. Other sizeable settlements in the parish include, Brockholes, Honley and New Mill. Singers.Jim Morgan (pictured) is retiring as musical director of the Singers at Christmas and the ensemble's accompanist Jane Robertson is also stepping down. To mark the end of this particular era in the Singers' history, there isafarewell concert on Tuesday December 11 at Holmfirth High School where Jim is director of music. It should be quite an occasion with the choir singing some of the pieces with which it has been associated over the years and all of them chosen by Jim. They will include Tiger Tiger

Last weekend, a concert at St Paul's Hall in Huddersfield brought together Holme Valley Singers, The Mastersingers, directed by Alan Simmons, The Millenium Gospel Choir and the Holme Valley Orchestra. Jim was the common thread running through the concert where he was involved either as a conductor or singer. The concert startedwiththe first performance of Jim's Wolcome Yole. His only opportunity tobepart of the audience was for three items which were sung by the Millennium Gospel Choir from Bolton directed and accompanied by Rob Wilding. |
