Concerned parents urge councillors not to shut primary.

PARENTS protested against plans to close their children's primary school.

Kirklees Kirklees is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 390,000 and includes the settlements of Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Marsden, Meltham, Mirfield and Slaithwaite.  Council's cabinet yesterday supported plans to reorganise Verb 1. reorganise - organize anew, as after a setback
regroup, reorganize

form, organize, organise - create (as an entity); "social groups form everywhere"; "They formed a company"

2.
primary schools in Cleckheaton and Birkenshaw.

But parents of children at St Luke's St Luke's is an area in the London Borough of Islington in Greater London, close to the borders with the London Borough of Hackney and the City of London, near the Barbican and Shoreditch. The closest tube station is Old Street.  CE First School in Cleckheaton are angry that it is due to close.

Mum Josie Pugsley led a delegation to the meeting: She said: "We want to send our children to a small school, it's a choice that we have and a choice that we don't see we should have to give up." Cleckheaton is one of the last parts of Kirklees to abolish the three-tier system of first schools, middle schools and high schools and replace it with a two-tier system The two-tier system, in the context of labor relations, is a type of contract employed by companies to scale back negotiated wages and benefits.

When a two-tier system is in place in a new contract, workers hired before ratification of that contract have a wage progression

Council officers want to develop a primary school for 210 children on the West End Middle School site and another for 420 pupils at the Whitechapel Middle

School site. But the plan would see St Luke's closing.

Mrs Pugsley said: "The school could easily be converted to take children aged five to 11. No-one has given us a valid reason why this isn't an option." Kirklees also wants to develop a primary school for 210 children in Hightown - at the site of either Hightown School or RM Grylls Community Middle School..

Council officers have also proposed building a primary school on the site of Birkenshaw First and Nursery. Parents have been asked to decide whether a second primary school in the area should be developed at East Bierley School or Birkenshaw Middle School.

Cabinet approved the plan and consultation will now run from June 8 to July 3, with a final decision in September..
