"One way or another, whether by referendum vote or initiative, the people of Portland have a right to decide whether a $3 billion purchase of PGE, or any other business, by the city, is a good use of taxpayer dollars. We believe that many Portland voters have higher priorities than the acquisition of PGE, such as education, transportation and services to seniors," said committee member Clayton Hering. "Both the Portland Business Alliance and the Westside Economic Alliance have it right," says Hering. "They support the stock distribution over the other alternatives, including the city purchase." |
