Portland General Electric (PGE) (NYSE: POR) is an electrical utility, formerly owned by the Houston-based Enron Corporation (but now independent), that distributes electricity to
(PGE). The Committee plans to officially register in the next three days. The Committee believes distributing the stock to creditors provides the best outcome for PGE customers and the communities it serves by returning PGE to its pre-Enron independent status. As an investor-owned company, the Committee believes that PGE will be able to continue its history of industry-leading customer service and reliability, strong community support and economic development leadership.

The Committee to Support PGE is comprised of concerned Portland business people and community volunteers, including Dick Keller, Ron Timpe, Mark Ganz, Harold Schnitzer, Tim Boyle Tim Boyle (born January 28, 1984) is an Australian rules football player, playing forward with the Hawthorn Hawks of the Australian Football League. "One way or another, whether by referendum vote or initiative, the people of Portland have a right to decide whether a $3 billion purchase of PGE, or any other business, by the city, is a good use of taxpayer dollars. We believe that many Portland voters have higher priorities than the acquisition of PGE, such as education, transportation and services to seniors," said committee member Clayton Hering.

"Both the Portland Business Alliance and the Westside Economic Alliance have it right," says Hering. "They support the stock distribution over the other alternatives, including the city purchase."
