Conceptronic Chooses Cimetrix GEM/SECS Software for Machine Communications Solution.

Cimetrix Inc. (OTCBB:CMXX), of Salt Lake City Thursday announced that Conceptronic Inc. of Portsmouth, N.H. has selected the Cimetrix GEM family of communications products for their Profile(TM) and HVC Series of high performance convection reflow soldering systems.

GEM (Generic Model for Communications and Control of SEMI Equipment) is a standard developed in the semiconductor industry to facilitate a common method for exchanging data between equipment on the plant floor and the host level computer systems.

Conceptronic is following a growing trend in the industry to provide production line data to GEM driven factory level computer systems. Major electronics manufacturers such as Motorola and the big 3 automotive electronics divisions have all installed GEM driven factory level systems to increase quality, throughput and yield on their printed circuit board assembly lines.

According to Cecil Ponder, CIM manager for the DaimlerChrysler, Huntsville Electronics Facility, a large user of Conceptronic ovens, "The GEM standard enables a wealth of information to be transferred between the plant floor equipment and quality control systems. We strongly encourage equipment suppliers, such as Conceptronic, to include robust GEM interfaces on their equipment."

The Conceptronic interface uses Microsoft's Visual Basic programming language to map data from their reflow oven controller to the Cimetrix GEM product. By using ActiveX and COM technologies, the integration time was reduced to five weeks, which is considerably less than competitive products using library techniques.

Stan Kench, marketing manager at Conceptronic said, "Integration with the Cimetrix GEM product has easily met our cost and timing objectives. We now have a robust GEM interface so our customers can take advantage of the process data available in our oven controllers."

The Cimetrix GEM communications product family includes products for both the equipment side interface and the host side interface. Through close cooperation with Motorola, these products were developed specifically to meet the demanding needs of the SMT industry including high bandwidth, complete GEM functionality, and specific features such as multi-host connections.

Cimetrix works closely with industry organizations and aggressively supports new initiatives such as XML capability and the 300mm standards.

Cimetrix has also recently announced that Motorola has placed a large seven-figure order for host side GEM/SECS licenses to be used as part of the new Motorola PULSE product. Cimetrix and Motorola have been working together for over four years on developing this software solution for electronics manufacturing.
