Based on a "pay for play" model, the new system will allow EarthLink Biz e-commerce merchants to accept payments in real-time without having a traditional merchant account. It will also allow EarthLink members to shop online without disclosing credit card information to the merchant.

The new system will benefit merchants and consumers alike. Consumers can quickly and securely send money to EarthLink merchants anywhere in the world with BizPay(TM). Merchants just getting into the e-commerce space have a simpler, less expensive entry-level alternative to help them start selling their wares online.

"Now not only is it easier for their e-commerce merchants to accept payment, it also gives EarthLink subscribers the peace of mind that they're not giving out their credit card over the Internet and that their data is safe," said Jason Genet genet: see civet. , executive vice president and COO for ConSyGen, Inc. "We think this relationship is a great fit. EarthLink's reputation for top-notch customer service, privacy, and e-commerce tools is a perfect fit for the types of transactions BizPay enables."

BizPay(TM) also allows EarthLink subscribers to send money to the e-commerce shopping sites as easily as sending e-mail. And since privacy and security is of paramount importance to EarthLink subscribers and merchants alike, BizPay's hardware architecture and protections are designed to financial institution security standards. All customer records are kept on remote servers not connected to the Internet and behind a series of firewalls monitored on a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year basis.

"Developing a viable e-commerce payment alternative to credit cards has always been something we've been interested in," said Jon Irwin, executive vice president of member experience at EarthLink. "Smaller businesses have sometimes found the process of setting up a merchant account and gateway to be a barrier to entry. BizPay allows those businesses to enter e-commerce more gradually and with less up-front commitment."
