Thousands of drivers from across the country annually compete for a place on the prestigious Road Team. The captains are highly visible community outreach and public educators of the trucking industry's efforts in practicing and promoting safety on America's highways. Their responsibilities include making presentations to schools, businesses and civic groups, conducting media events and interviews and meeting with legislators and lobbyists. The Road Team, which was established in 1986, also attends the annual ATA Safety Conference. Captains serve 18-month terms but continue to act as a Road Team member when called upon by the ATA even after their terms expire.

Reynolds, 39, has been a Con-Way Western Express employee since February 1986. Over his career he has driven more than 1,000,000 accident-free miles and received several driving awards. In 1993 and 1994 he was the back-to-back winner in CWX's Truck Driving Championships and in 1995, he won second place, in the three-axle class, of the Arizona State Driving Championships.

&uot; With Ross' exceptionally safe driving record and his outstanding skills as a driver, he will be a strong envoy for conveying to the public the industry's activities on safety issues,&uot; said Mr. Chip Boone, president and chief executive officer of CWX.

Reynolds is the musical director for his local church and in his spare time plays guitar and sings in a trio. His other interests include hunting, fishing and golf. He and his wife Cathy have one son.

During the competition Reynolds will participate in round-table discussions about the industry, make a short presentation and participate in mock media interviews. The ATA will complete the evaluation and selection process in late January. Last year CON-WAY took one spot on the 1999 Road Team.
