Con-Way Southern Express Announces Executive Promotions; Worthington Moves to V. P. Operations, Guice Promoted to V. P. Sales.


FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 1999--Con-Way Southern Express (CSE (Certified Systems Engineer) See Microsoft certification. ) announced today that James Philip James Peyton "Pate" Philip (born May 26 1930 in Elmhurst, Illinois), is a Republican from Wood Dale, Illinois. Philip is a former member of the Illinois Senate and the Illinois House of Representatives.

Philip's stepson Randy Ramey was appointed to the Illinois House in 2005.
 Worthington has been named vice president of operations and John W. Guice has been promoted to vice president of sales for the company, a less-than-truckload (LTL LTL - Linear Temporal Logic ) regional carrier.

The announcement was made by John T. Hickerson, president and chief executive officer of CSE, which is based in Forth Worth.

"Phil and Johnny both have a tremendous amount of industry expertise, experience and leadership skills that will assure the continued success of Con-Way Southern Express," said Hickerson. CSE is a component of Con-Way Transportation Services, a $1.7-billion transportation company based in Ann Arbor Ann Arbor, city (1990 pop. 109,592), seat of Washtenaw co., S Mich., on the Huron River; inc. 1851. It is a research and educational center, with a large number of government and industrial research and development firms, many in high-technology fields such as , Mich.

Worthington, 47, will replace Jeff Wilson, who is retiring. Worthington joined CSE in 1987 and has served as an operations assistant, service center manager, director of personnel, regional manager and most recently was vice president of sales. In his new position, he will be responsible for day-to-day operations of CSE's service network, strategic development, safety and fleet maintenance. "Phil has been instrumental in CSE's success and will bring that same innovation, leadership and drive to operations," said Hickerson.

Worthington, with 18 years transportation experience, holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Georgia School of Law The University of Georgia School of Law is an American Bar Association-accredited law school located in Athens, Georgia on the campus of the University of Georgia (UGA). Formerly known as the Lumpkin School of Law and founded in 1859, it is the second oldest of the University's  and graduated cum laude from the university. He previously held management positions with Roadway Package Systems, McLean Trucking and Roadway Express. Worthington and his wife, Ginny, reside in Grapevine, Texas and have two sons.

Guice, 47, a 27-year transportation veteran, joined CON-WAY in 1989 as a service center manager and was promoted to a regional manager in 1993. Under his leadership, the central region increased profits significantly while lowering operating ratios. In his new position, Guice will be responsible for all sales performance, policy development, sales administration, sales training and strategic sales planning. "Johnny brings a superior understanding of the sales process and customer needs to his job in addition to outstanding team building and management skills," said Hickerson.
