Police are urging Stockton residents to be on their guard after conmen targeted two pensioners. The first incident occurred on Sunday at about 6.30pm when a man knocked on the front window of a house on Thistle Road. The caller, who was wearing a striped shirt, told the householder that his little boy had been in her back garden. She opened the door, but kept it on the security chain. When the man asked if he could enter, she closed it. At 7.30pm on the same day, a man approached a ground-floor flat on Berkshire Road. He told the elderly resident that he was a police officer and that there had been an incident outside her home and wanted to check her windows were not broken. After giving the lady reassurances that he was a police officer even though not in uniform, he visited the kitchen and living room before telling her everything was OK. However, it was only after the man, who was wearing a white shirt with broad green stripes, had left that the lady noticed her purse was missing from her handbag.
