A central chilled water facility is a system that generates and pumps chilled water into building ventilation fans to provide year-round climate control. Brooklyn College's new chilled water facility, scheduled for substantial completion by June 2000, will consist of three steam-driven and two electric-driven chillers, each with a 2,000-ton capacity. The availability of both electric and steam chillers enables Brooklyn College to optimize their energy operations and achieve significant energy savings through the use of steam chillers during high electric demand periods. The chilled water will be distributed throughout the campus's eleven buildings-totaling 1.45 million square feet-using an underground-piping network.
