Under the terms of the agreement, more than 60 million Vodafone subscribers can benefit from seamless access to their messages, and other value-added services A value-added service (VAS) is a telecommunications industry term for non-core services or, in short, all services beyond standard voice calls and fax transmissions.  when going abroad.

As a result of their cooperation, star*home and Vodafone are currently offering new services:
-- Home Short Code: subscribers can use their familiar home-network short
numbers to access value added services (VAS) while roaming (such as voicemail,
home customer-care and information services).

-- Global Direct Access: securely delivers subscriber caller identification
data for transparent access to VAS; for example, subscribers can retrieve their
voicemail while abroad by accessing their voicemail boxes directly, in the same
way they do at home.

-- Welcome SMS: visiting travellers will receive welcome SMS messages from
visited networks as soon as they register. These messages will include
information that could be useful to travellers, such as how to dial short
numbers or obtain visitor information.

star*home also offers the potential for additional intelligent and unique services in the future, and will not only create a home environment for mobile users when they travel abroad and choose a Vodafone network, but will help them solve the special needs they may face as international travellers.

Vodafone elected to partner globally with star*home, having already launched successful commercial services and solutions on a number of the group's networks. Friedrich Joussen, Vodafone's Global Products Director, commented, "In keeping with our global product strategy, we want to make it easy for our customers to access their services wherever they roam with Vodafone, but in the past both language and technology have presented a barrier. The current agreement with star*home significantly enhances our ability to offer advanced international services. It also ensures that we retain our competitive edge, as it makes subscribers more likely to choose Vodafone over other networks."
