) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received an order in excess of $1.0 million from ChinaSat Communications Group, a satellite operator. The order includes Comtech EF Data's flagship CDM-600 Satellite Modem A device used to transmit and receive signals from a satellite transponder. For transmission, it modulates digital data signals from a multiplexing device into a carrier frequency for delivery to an upconverter, amplifier and antenna. .

ChinaSat will deploy the CDM-600 Satellite Modems in a Global System for Mobile Communications (communications) Global System for Mobile Communications - (GSM, originally "Groupe de travail Sp?ciale pour les services Mobiles") One of the major standards for digital cellular communications, in use in over 60 countries and serving over one billion subscribers.  (GSM) network to support telephony services in rural areas throughout the region. The CDM-600 Satellite Modems will be configured with Comtech's patented bandwidth efficient Turbo Product Coding, an advanced forward error correction A communications technique that can correct bad data on the receiving end.
