) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., secured a $1.5 million order to provide satellite communications equipment to a major telecommunications service provider A Telecommunications Service Provider or TSP is a type of Communications Service Provider that has traditionally provided telephone and similar services. The Comtech EF Data equipment will facilitate the upgrade of an existing cellular backhaul infrastructure in the region.

The order comprises a range of satellite communications products, including Comtech EF Data's flagship Satellite Modem A device used to transmit and receive signals from a satellite transponder. For transmission, it modulates digital data signals from a multiplexing device into a carrier frequency for delivery to an upconverter, amplifier and antenna.  - the CDM-600, redundancy switches, frequency converters, transceivers and amplifiers. The CDM-600 Satellite Modem offers up to 20 Mbps operation, the industry's widest range of bandwidth-efficient forward error correction A communications technique that can correct bad data on the receiving end. Before transmission, the data are processed through an algorithm that adds extra bits for error correction. If the transmitted message is received in error, the correction bits are used to repair it.  and an array of modulation techniques and interface options. The redundancy switches, converters, transceivers and amplifiers will also be deployed as part of the customer's cellular backhaul network upgrade.
