) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was awarded a $1.3 million order for satellite communications equipment from a U.S. government agency. The order was for turboIP[R]-45 Performance Enhancement Proxies, which will be utilized to upgrade an existing satellite communications-based network.

The turboIP-45 Performance Enhancement Proxy was designed to combat the inherent challenges of transmitting transmission control protocol (TCP (1) (Transmission Control Protocol) The reliable transport protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite. TCP ensures that all data arrive accurately and 100% intact at the other end. ) over satellite links. The unit provides transparent acceleration of TCP sessions, increasing throughput over satellite links while requiring minimal topology changes.
