Comtech Telecommunications Awarded Contract for Satellite Communications Program.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) today announced that it has received a $680,000 contract for the first phase of work on a satellite communications program Software that manages the transmission of data between computers, typically via modem and the serial port. Such programs were very popular for connecting to BBSs before the Internet took off.  that will provide emergency communications from anywhere in the Bahamas island chain.

The contract, the first awarded in a project that is expected to have a second phase and total more than $1 million, was awarded by the Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation (Batelco) to the Orlando-based Comtech Systems segment of Comtech Telecommunications. Under it, the company will:

- Engineer and manufacture and provide an upgrade of Batelco's

existing fixed satellite station in Nassau, The Bahamas.

- Provide a high-capacity, transportable satellite terminal for

emergency communications anywhere in the Bahamas.

The contract calls for delivery and activation of the new equipment within 60 days, so that it will be ready for use in the approaching hurricane season Hurricane season refers to a period in a year when hurricanes usually form. For more information see: Tropical cyclone#Times of formation.

Fred Kornberg, chairman and president of Comtech Telecommunications, noted that although this is the first satellite earth station contract awarded to the company by Batelco, the two organizations have long experience in working together on over-the-horizon microwave communications projects.

"Batelco's experience with Comtech was an important element in our success in winning this new contract," Mr. Kornberg said. "They know we have done a good job for them in the past, and they know we can do this job right, too - and get it done on time."
