MUNICH, Germany -- At both the 3GSM World Congress and CeBIT, the trend is obvious: Mobile radio is clearly headed for higher data rates and sophisticated applications. User equipment must therefore be put through complex tests to ensure high performance and stability. Comsys Communication and Signal Processing Ltd., a leader in wireless baseband solutions, uses the tried-and-tested Universal Radio Communication Tester R&S CMU200 from Rohde & Schwarz for its best in class EGPRS baseband IP. The R&S CMU200 enables emulation of a complete network environment between client and server. Applications such as multimedia message service (MMS), Internet or video streaming can thus be carried out and tested at high data rates.

The conventional setup for RF measurements includes the mobile phone to be tested and the tester. For most mobile radio standards such as GSM, EGPRS, WCDMA, HSDPA and CDMA2000, the R&S CMU200 permits all RF analyses of a user equipment's receive and transmit section. To test applications such as real time video streaming or web browsing, the test setup must emulate a real radio network. Using optional expansions, the instrument can set up a connection to a server PC via Ethernet and test the mobile phone when it performs any IP-based applications.

The high resolution video stream ran smoothly and without interruption at maximum data rates of 222Kbps.

The Universal Radio Communication Tester R&S CMU200 allows simple Go/NoGo tests as well as performance analyses, where the data transmission rates are indicated. The interaction of different, simultaneous applications on the mobile phone as well as the interoperability between two UE can be analyzed.
