), a leader in the development and marketing of high performance remote access hardware and software solutions, and Galacticomm, a leader in high-end network-centric software solutions for both the Intranet and expanded Extranet, announced today a partnership to provide a new Windows NT remote access solution, complete with Computone's IntelliServer PowerRack, a high-speed remote access communications server that is optimum in the NT environment, and Galacticomm's RADIUS For Worldgroup Software.

Thomas Anderson, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Computone, stated, "We're excited about this new partnership with Galacticomm. Our PowerRack product is the fastest remote access server and the first to offer performance above and beyond the speed of communication links available today. And, it is fully equipped with the all the latest software features such as RADIUS, RIP, PPP/SLIP and proxyarp. Coupled with Galacticomm's superior Online RADIUS Software technology, the two products make a perfect solution for BBS and/or Internet Service Providers (ISPs). We are confident that Galacticomm's already established marketing strengths perfectly complement those of Computone and that this new relationship will substantially enhance revenues for Computone's leading edge products."

Galacticomm's President, Yannick Tessier, said, "We're very pleased to have the opportunity to incorporate Computone's innovative remote access server technology with our Worldgroup RADIUS Software technology. The PowerRack was an optimum choice to bundle with our product because it has security, RADIUS, RIP, dial-in/dial-out capabilities, extended capacity, high performance, and it's fully compatible with Windows NT. This new bundled solution is exactly what our customers have been looking for. We look forward to a very prosperous relationship with Computone."

The PowerRack supports concurrent serial port speeds of 921.6Kbps, on all ports, where most competitive products only support 115.2 Kbps. The PowerRack is expandable up to 64 serial ports and can support 64 simultaneous PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) The most popular method for transporting IP packets over a serial link between the user and the ISP. Developed in 1994 by the IETF and superseding the SLIP protocol, PPP establishes the session between the user's computer and the ISP using  sessions, which is optimum for Internet Service Providers and high-end intranet applications.

When installed on a LAN, the IntelliServer is menu-driven and requires no special operating system device drivers, simplifying upgrades and TCP/IP host cross-platform connectivity. To maintain high throughput for up to 64 physical devices, the IntelliServer integrates surface mount technology with ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." Built-in connectors for Ethernet are BNC (thin-net) and AUI (thick-net, twisted pair, or fiber optic). IntelliServer's standard feature list includes full PPP, SLIP, CSLIP (Compressed SLIP) A version of SLIP that compresses the data for transmission.

, RADIUS, RIP and proxyarp, which offers an ideal solution for sites that wish to implement cost-effective standalone remote access, Internet access, and LAN-to-LAN interconnectivity.

The RADIUS "Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service" software, running on the Worldgroup platform in conjunction with the Computone PowerRack provides a powerful centralized user database. The Worldgroup RADIUS Server software includes features of security, accounting, membership, mail and news service, along with Worldgroup add-ons, which provide video conferencing, online shopping, and interactive entertainment. The Worldgroup RADIUS Server software achieves significant performance over competitive products by the minimal CPU and disk impact, so a single Worldgroup server can be the centralized user database for up to six million user accounts.
