Computerworld Honor's Program Issues Call for Nominations for the 2006 21st Century Achievement Awards.


FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Relaunched Awards Site Combines New Design With User Friendly Navigation Tools

The Computerworld Honors Program (www.cwheroes.org) has announced a call for nominations for the 18th year of its prestigious 21st Century Achievement Awards. These awards are presented to companies from around the world who have used information technology to benefit society.

"We look forward to building upon this vital public service program, with the call for nominations for this year's 21st Century Achievement Awards," said Ron Milton, Executive Director. "These awards provide a global platform to celebrate the highest standards of individuals and organizations that are harnessing information technology for the betterment bet·ter·ment

Nominations officially open on September 7, 2005, will close on January, 31, 2006, and are open to all Chairmen's Committee Company members. Nomination forms can be found at (www.cwheroes.org/nomination.pdf). The awards recipients will be announced at The Laureate lau·re·ate

Awards will be presented in 10 categories: Business and Related Services; Education and Academia; Environment, Energy, and Agriculture; Finance, Insurance and Real Estate; Government and Non-Profit Organizations A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes. ; Manufacturing; Media, Arts, and Entertainment; Medicine; Science; and Transportation.

Last year's 21st Century Award Recipients included Turner Broadcasting for their Optimizing Digital Medal project and OnStar for its Advanced Automatic Crash Notification project. Other noteworthy recipients were Cambium cambium (kăm`bēəm), thin layer of generative tissue lying between the bark and the wood of a stem, most active in woody plants. The cambium produces new layers of phloem on the outside and of xylem (wood) on the inside, thus increasing  Forstbetriebe for its Log Tracking System; Broward County Environmental Protection Department of Florida for its creation of a New Mobile and Monitoring System and the Acxiom Corporation for its Customer Information Infrastructure Project.

Details for this year's awards, as well as previous winners, will be available on a newly relaunched Computerworld Honors Program Web site (www.cwheroes.org). Updates to the site combine streamlined design and a user-friendly interface.
