I am a customer of a certain cable TV company and because I can't get a direct debit direct debit Noun an order given to a bank or other financial institution by an account holder to pay an amount of money from the account to a specified person or company at regular intervals direct debit n account to pay its bill every month I am charged a pounds 5 handling charge, even though I've never been in any sort of arrears with them and have always paid by debit card debit card, card that allows the cost of goods or services that are purchased to be deducted directly from the purchaser's checking account. They can also be used at automated teller machines for withdrawing cash from the user's checking account. . But now when they send the bill they also charge me pounds 1.20, just to tell me how much I owe them, but if I had a computer I could pay them on-line and save these extra payments...
