Computer People acquires Automated Concepts' Los Angeles contract programming business.


EL SEGUNDO El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1995--Computer People Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of London-based Computer People Group plc, Monday announced the acquisition of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  contract programming business of Automated Concepts Inc. (ACILA ACILA Associate of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters ) in a cash transaction with a potential value of $2 million.

The acquisition will expand Computer People's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  presence, helping to develop its business of providing professional service solutions to a wide variety of computer users. The transaction is expected to close in late March, subject to certain conditions being met by both parties.

"We are very pleased to have ACILA joining forces with Computer People," said Tony Vickers, president and chief executive officer of Computer People. "The acquisition not only helps Computer People achieve greater critical mass in a key market, it should also enhance the overall profitability of the Los Angeles operating base by combining two already successful operations into one."

Similar to Computer People, ACILA provides mid- to large-size corporations with computer consultants for a variety of projects. ACILA presently has a staff of 45 serving 15 clients. Current management will be retained and will oversee both ACILA and Computer People operations in Los Angeles. ACILA achieved $5.2 million in revenues in 1994.

Computer People, which operates nationally through 10 offices, achieved a 21 percent increase in revenues to $44 million in 1994, representing 30 percent of the parent company's total volume. The Los Angeles office currently has a staff of 65, before the ACILA expansion.
