PC Vendors Battle to Provide Best Support

Businesses need help running their computers and manufacturers are coming to the rescue with unique support programs designed to meet the needs of small and medium sized businesses (SMB (1) (Small to Medium-sized Business) Also called "SME" (small to medium-sized enterprise), it refers to companies that are larger than the small office/home office (SOHO), but not huge. ). Gateway

Gateway has set up 144 Country Stores to demonstrate products, provide face-to-face advice, order Gateway equipment and provide training and service upgrades. Gateway uses the stores to build relationships with customers, VARs and consultants.

Hewlett-Packard

HP leaves virtually all the hand-holding, installation and other services to its VARs. But if Compaq, IBM and Gateway are successful with their more involved efforts, expect HP to jump back into the direct-services route with both feet.

IBM

IBM offers a variety of Internet and e-commerce services, such as software, Web hosting Making a Web site available on the Internet. Many ISPs host a few personal Web pages for an individual at no additional cost above the monthly service fee, but the address is subordinate to the ISP; for example, www.friendlyisp.com/pat_smith.  and site design, along with the servers, PCs and notebooks, which can be leased through IBM, assembled in a package and installed and supported by a VAR.
