Computer Language Research announces new utility industry focus.


CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1996--Computer Language Research Inc. (Nasdaq/NM: CLRI CLRI Central Leather Research Institute (India) ), today announced the formation of a Utility Group, which is focused on the software needs of the utility industry.

This group will provide the utility industry with software and services to serve its unique requirements. CLR's corporate business segment formed a similar group in 1988 to focus on the needs of insurance companies. Today the Insurance Group provides software and services to more than 550 insurance companies.

In conjunction with this announcement, CLR (Common Language Runtime) The runtime engine in Microsoft's .NET platform. The CLR compiles and executes programs in Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL). The counterpart to the CLR for the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI), ECMA's standard version of .  also announced the signing of a $1.4 million contract to supply its new client/server Utility Fixed Asset Management System (Insource(R) CS-UFAMS) to Central Maine Power (CMP CMP (cytidine monophosphate): see cytosine.

The contract is for software and services to be provided by CLR as a part of CMP's project to replace its corporate property records, book and tax depreciation systems, and several other fixed asset related systems. CLR is joined by Intergraph Corporation, located in Huntsville, Ala., to provide CMP's total solution for bringing together financial and operational information. Intergraph will provide an automated mapping/facility management/geographic information system to manage CMP's facility assets. CMP is Maine's largest utility, serving 520 thousand customers.

Allen Harris, group vice president of CLR/Fast-Tax's corporate business segment, stated, "We believe that our utility industry focus will provide utility companies with a long-needed solution: an integrated, Microsoft(R) Windows-based, client/server application, which automates fixed asset management for both financial and tax purposes."
