Computer Data Systems, Inc. Implements Biometric Time and Accounting System for the Department of Commerce.

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1996--CDSI Business Applications Solutions Company (BAS), a division of Computer Data Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDSI) announced today the implementation of an Integrated Time and Accounting System (ITAS) for the Department of Commerce. The system integrates biometric and SmartCard technology with off-the-shelf time and attendance and financial management software. The system employs touch-screen technology.

Each OCS employee has been issued a SmartCard encoded with information such as his or her name, address, employee number and biometric identification. ITAS verifies an employee's identity with the biometric encoded on the SmartCard. Once an employee is verified, ITAS allows the employee to access his or her authorized area.

ITAS integrates three of CDSI BAS' cutting-edge, client-server technologies: biometric identification, financial management, and executive reporting.

ABIDS(TM), CDSI's Automated Biometric Identification System, is a set of core technologies that integrates the best biometric devices, databases and card technologies into a positive identification solution. ITAS uses ABIDS to increase the level of security of OCS by accurately identifying employees. Through an automated enrollment process, Biometric Access Sign-In/Sign-Out (BASS), employees are verified, then given access to the computer facility at the start and end of the work day.

For example, when employees enter the facility at the beginning of their scheduled work day, they insert their SmartCard into the reader. The BASS Module verifies the employees' electronically encoded information and requests their biometric identification. Once successful verification is established, the system notes whether the employee is entering or exiting for the day. The BASS module passes the employee verification to the ITAS time and attendance system for activity cost reporting.

i.e.FARS(TM), CDSI's Information Engineered Financial Accounting and Reporting System, is integrated into ITAS to provide activity-based cost accounting control over OCS direct-labor services, and to capture the direct-labor charges that are passed to i.e.FARS and the time and attendance system. This portion of ITAS also produces customer bills. i.e.FARS is the only integrated GSA certified, CASE tool generated, client/server financial management system for government on the market today.

ITAS integrates CDSI's Executive Touch(TM) to support OCS' executive reporting needs. Executive Touch provides a single point of contact at a user's desktop for reporting, analyzing and displaying data without affecting the source database(s) and auxiliary applications. A touch-screen monitor, graphical user interface (GUI) master menu and sound capabilities make Executive Touch a user-friendly system that generates real-time data.
