Each of the three participating schools will have its own "POWERHOUSE," a classroom equipped with state-of-the-art computers and interactive multimedia software. To help motivate students, the program will also include incentives in the form of appearances from major sports figures, tickets, and other prizes.

Students of all capabilities can thus benefit from the system. Many schools using CCC's SuccessMaker have seen a significant increase in their students' scores on national tests.

way to provide a safety net for students who are in danger of repeating a school year," said Jerry Lee, program creator and long-standing board member of the National Association of Broadcasters.

"CCC was chosen to participate because of its track record in helping students to increase their scores on national tests as well as providing teachers accountability tools for the management of student progress."

An additional benefit of enhanced learning and a special focus of this program is that fewer students will have to repeat grades. Every student who repeats a year costs the school district an average of $5,800. With fewer students held back, the Philadelphia School System, which is one of the five largest in the country, can potentially save substantially.

"This is the first time we've teamed up with a radio station in this kind of innovative program," said Ron Fortune, CCC's president and chief executive officer.

"The POWERHOUSE program will offer the student not only the opportunity to advance in school but will also provide the skills needed to prepare them to be successful adults. With this program, we hope to promote the process of lifelong learning Lifelong learning is the concept that "It's never too soon or too late for learning", a philosophy that has taken root in a whole host of different organisations. Lifelong learning is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviors. ."

"We are tremendously excited and energized by this unique partnership," said Chester Schofield, vice president and general manager of POWER 99 FM. "POWER 99 FM is devoted to a vision of supporting young people in becoming positive, contributing members of society.

"We believe that this project has tremendous potential for not only the students who are participating in this pilot program but as a model for school systems throughout the country."
