Computer City announces direct marketing program.

 computer superstore retailer, will enter the direct marketing channel this summer. The newly created program will offer up to 2,500 leading-edge computer hardware and software products to computer users throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Beginning this summer, more than 1 million computer users will receive a catalog of products. By dialing 1-800-THE-CITY, consumers can have product shipped directly to their homes via FedEx. Most in-stock products will ship the same day.

An extensive advertising and marketing campaign including a series of catalogs is initially planned. Computer City has selected Tempe, Ariz.-based direct marketer Insight Enterprises, Inc. to provide certain sales, processing and shipping services on these orders.

The direct marketing program will provide many of the name brand products currently available through the company's retail stores, including Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  and Toshiba.
