Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today began shipping Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3, the industry's first fully integrated, multi-platform management solution for enterprise SAP R/3 environments.

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 provides powerful, end-to-end management of distributed R/3 applications across multiple platforms, operating systems and R/3 systems from a single management console. By doing so, Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 enables IT departments to effectively manage business processes running on R/3 and other computing resources in a coherent manner -- regardless of the size or distribution of their implementation.

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 is based on CA's Open Application Management Initiative (OAMI), an open infrastructure that uses the native APIs of CA solutions and third-party applications such as SAP R/3 to provide seamless integration into Unicenter TNG. Utilizing OAMI, CA and SAP tightly integrated Unicenter TNG with CCMS, SAP's R/3 management system, to provide comprehensive functionality across multiple R/3 systems.

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 also includes complete management and integration of R/3 scheduling, event management, performance, backup, auto-discovery and problem management functions. Critical SAP R/3 systems and sub-systems can be integrated with enterprise management functions across multiple functions and platforms.

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 provides a simple, consistent and customizable view of all SAP R/3-related components. R/3 database servers, backup servers, application servers, network hardware and the clients themselves are all automatically displayed in an easily recognizable form under either Unicenter TNG's 2D or 3D Real World Interface. Workload Management In An SAP R/3 Environment

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 provides complete enterprise-level workload distribution functions for R/3, as well as full event, workflow, and error management. By integrating with CCMS, Unicenter TNG provides scheduling capabilities across multiple R/3 systems and non-R/3 jobs on multiple platforms, such as Windows NT, UNIX, OS/2, AS/400 and mainframes. These capabilities include dependencies between R/3 and non-R/3 jobs, enhanced error handling and automatic restart.

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 monitors job sequences and job failures, adheres to time requirements, and matches jobs to the resources needed to run them, providing streamlined control of R/3 jobs, workflow displays and other events.

End-To-End Event Management Of SAP R/3 Environments

Unicenter TNG's specialized SAP R/3 agents provide powerful event management capabilities, including monitoring and control functions. These agents are capable of extracting R/3 event data from the R/3 system log and reporting the events to the Unicenter TNG console in accordance with event management policies. All event information from SAP R/3 can be instrumented for display and alarm notification. The end-to-end event management of Unicenter TNG delivers the filtering and correlation of SAP R/3 events with other events in the IT infrastructure. This correlated information can also be used to trigger appropriate actions for both R/3 and non-R/3 resources, providing event management of the entire enterprise.

Single Console For Enterprise Management

Until now, each SAP R/3 instance required its own management console and staffing for proper control. Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 combines information from multiple R/3 systems, providing a single point of control for the R/3 environment. Administering critical event, scheduling, performance and problem management functions from one enterprise management console reduces costs, increases responsiveness and eliminates potential areas of error and conflict.

Seamless Hot Backup Of Multiple SAP R/3 Systems

Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 simplifies backup of R/3 systems by providing a complete backup of R/3 databases along with the rest of the enterprise's data. Through its SAP Certified interface, Unicenter TNG provides seamless hot backup of multiple SAP R/3 systems.

Backup and restore functions can be performed within the context of the R/3 application, allowing application objects to be grouped together logically for common backup operations. The Unicenter TNG for SAP R/3 database utility provides full tablespace support for backing up Oracle systems and both tablespace and table level support for SQL Server.

Additional Functionality For SAP Users

Unicenter TNG offers additional value to SAP R/3 users through options that provide security, control and access to multiple R/3 systems, delivery of the SAP GUI to client systems, advanced problem management and automated network problem information, and communications and traffic management for networks running R/3 systems.
