(SRC) today announced they have signed a referral agreement for Year 2000 projects in which source code is missing.

Many companies cannot update their legacy applications for Year 2000 compliance because they cannot locate some of their source code. SRC can recover missing source code from object modules so that it can be remediated automatically by CA-Fix/2000, a key component of CA's Discovery 2000 solution.

SRC has been recovering source code primarily for Fortune 500 companies and government agencies for more than five years, having provided recovered source code which has been 100 percent functionally equivalent to the original missing code. Developed by the company, SRC's proprietary technology can be used to recover COBOL COBOL: see programming language.

"Source code for legacy applications is often impossible to locate," said Mark Stabler, vice president of CA's Year 2000 Business Unit. "Partnering with The Source Recovery Company enables us to help clients recover missing code so that their applications can be quickly and completely fixed for Year 2000 compliance, providing huge time, resource and cost savings."

Under the agreement, CA will refer clients with missing source code to SRC, which will work with clients to restore the code.

Industry analysts estimate that in a typical company, three to five percent of all source code is missing, and, in some cases, as much as 20 percent of source code may be lost.

"We are delighted to be associated with a software industry leader like Computer Associates and its award-winning Discovery 2000 solution," said Barry A. Clapp, president of SRC. "Our complementary solutions provide CA clients with the fastest, most efficient solution available for remediating applications in which source code is missing."

CA Discovery 2000 provides products that help reduce the costs and maximize the success of Year 2000 initiatives. It incorporates automated solutions for every phase of a Year 2000 effort - from initial portfolio assessment through code conversion and testing to final production turnover.
