Computer Associates and Intesa Sign Contract to Provide Year 2000 Solutions to Petroleos de Venezuela.


CARACAS, Venezuela--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1998--

Largest Year 2000 Deal For CA In Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies.

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), the world leader in mission-critical business software, and Intesa, an integrated technological service provider to Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA PDVSA Petroleos De Venezuela, SA ) and other customers, announced an agreement to deliver advanced Year 2000 solutions to PDVSA. This represents the largest Year 2000 agreement for CA in Latin America.

Intesa is helping PDVSA control and manage its Information Systems Year 2000 project portfolio, from initial impact analysis and code remediation to application life cycle management and testing. Under the CA/Intesa agreement and through the use of CA Discovery 2000, a high proportion of PDVSA's mission-critical business software will be remediated in a fast track approach to allow the corporation to be ready on time. As has been widely recognized, many applications and systems that use two-digit years may not handle the upcoming century change and therefore need to be fixed to avoid business interruption INTERRUPTION. CA Discovery 2000 is a suite of tools and services that help reduce the costs and increase the success of Year 2000 initiatives. It incorporates automated solutions for many phases of a Year 2000 effort -- from initial portfolio assessment through code conversion and testing to final production turnover. CA Discovery 2000 consists of automated remediation and independent verification and validation (testing) Independent Verification and Validation - (IV&V) The verification and validation of a software product by an organisation that is both technically and managerially separate from the organisation responsible for developing the product.  tools such as CA-Fix/2000 and UNICAST/2000, along with specialized testing tools.
