Computer Associates Ships CA-Visual Objects 2.0 For Windows 95 and Windows NT.

ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1997--Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced it is shipping CA-Visual Objects An object-oriented client/server development system formerly from Computer Associates that is used to develop Windows applications. It provides visual programming tools and a programming language that evolved from Clipper.  2.0, a fully object-oriented 32-bit development tool that allows developers to quickly create 32-bit native-code applications for Microsoft Windows See Windows.

 95 and Windows NT.

CA-Visual Objects 2.0 combines the flexibility and ease-of-use of object-oriented and visual development tools with the performance, reliability and power of a native-code compiler. The release takes advantage of new features in Windows 95 and Windows NT, such as upward compatibility, improved Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

For building applications, CA-Visual Objects 2.0 includes a set of class libraries for GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  programming, OLE and database management. "CA-Visual Objects 2.0 has a more complete set of GUI objects, allowing much greater functionality," said Jim Geiser, computer analyst at Texas Instruments. "The enhanced repository browsers allow programmers to see the CA-Visual Objects 2.0 objects much better than any other repository browser in the same category."

"CA-Visual Objects 2.0 is a great breakthrough in 32-bit Windows programming," said Steve Straley, co-president of Sirius Press Inc., USA Division. "Maintaining the tradition of 'open architecture' established in CA-Clipper, the power and potential of this product is limited only by one's imagination."

CA-Visual Objects 2.0 is compatible with most legacy Xbase code and employs replaceable database driver (RDD RDD Random Digit Dialing

and Xbase support, and an active multi-tiered repository.

a 32-bit Windows application development tool," said Ralf Saborowski, CA-Visual Objects product owner.

"CA-Visual Objects 2.0 is faster than Visual Basic and easier to use than Delphi," added Jon Kilburn, programmer/analyst at ++Inc. of Dallas, Texas, and developer of third party utilities.

CA-Visual Objects' extensible 32-bit object-oriented language allows programmers to create their own classes and methods, and take advantage of the most beneficial aspects of object-oriented programming, including inheritance, polymorphism polymorphism, of minerals, property of crystallizing in two or more distinct forms. Calcium carbonate is dimorphous (two forms), crystallizing as calcite or aragonite. Titanium dioxide is trimorphous; its three forms are brookite, anatase (or octahedrite), and rutile.  and encapsulation (1) In object technology, the creation of self-contained modules that contain both the data and the processing. The CA-Visual Objects 2.0 language also contains extensions for 32-bit Windows and its programming environment. For example, the language includes native C-style data types like pointers, structures, unions and zero-terminated strings, allowing programmers to write DLLs and access Windows API functions for low-level system programming.

The suggested retail price for CA-Visual Objects 2.0 is $125 for the standard edition and $349 for the professional edition. The professional edition includes ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  drivers, an SQL library, CA-OpenIngres Desktop and a 32-bit report writer. Upgrade pricing starts at $79.
