Computer Associates Launches Comprehensive Enterprise Security Solution.

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1998--

GuardIT Provides Advanced Access Control, Centralized Management

And Auditing For Heterogeneous Corporate Computing Environments

Computer Associates today announced the availability of GuardIT, a comprehensive security solution for multi-platform computing environments based on CA's industry-leading Unicenter TNG TNG Training

technology. GuardIT substantially reduces security risk and the cost of security management by providing a unified, cross platform solution.

GuardIT, available as an Enterprise Edition, provides authorization control beyond the native operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
facilities, such as offered by UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. . For example, GuardIT can prevent UNIX superusers or Windows NT administrators from viewing critical corporate information while letting them perform their day-to-day tasks.

GuardIT, combined with CA's network security products, CryptIT and ProtectIT, a comprehensive network firewall, provides a complete network and systems security solution for the enterprise.

"Today's complex IT environments require sophisticated security capabilities that are easy to implement," said CA Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Charles B. Wang. "GuardIT addresses that need by delivering enterprise class security across heterogeneous environments."

and audit facilities. In addition, it offers single sign-on An identification system that lets users log into multiple Web sites on the Internet with one username and password. Single sign-on systems are also used within an enterprise, enabling users to access all authorized resources in the local network using the same username and password.  access to applications and systems across the enterprise, thereby simplifying end-user operations and reducing help desk calls.

GuardIT's simple user interface makes it easy and less time-consuming for administrators to implement and modify user access rights throughout the enterprise --an important consideration in today's fast-changing business environment, where user access requirements change frequently.

GuardIT's broad platform support encompasses Windows NT and a wide range of UNIX platforms. In addition, GuardIT supports integration with mainframe security products such as CA-ACF2, CA-Top Secret and IBM's RACF (Resource Access Control Facility) IBM mainframe security software introduced in 1976 that verifies user ID and password and controls access to authorized files and resources.

. This cross-product support includes real-time, bi-directional synchronization of security policies between GuardIT and supported mainframe products.

GuardIT provides a powerful tool for auditing and analyzing user activity across all platforms, from a single point of control. GuardIT also monitors real-time user activity and can automatically trigger events and take actions when security violations are attempted. For example, GuardIT can suspend a user ID and notify the security administrator if multiple incorrect passwords are attempted.

GuardIT's highly scalable architecture uses optimized in-memory copies of the security policies to determine and enforce security privileges. This enables GuardIT to perform security validations at memory cycle speeds and to operate independently of the security server. Thus, in the event of a system failure of the security server or access path loss, all systems and applications remain protected.

CA's new Workgroup Edition and Enterprise Edition products are built on the proven Unicenter TNG Framework. They utilize its sophisticated management services like autodiscovery, calendar, communications and object repository to deliver unparalleled scalability from LAN-based workgroup environments to large-scale enterprises. Users also reap the benefits of the Real World Interface (2D, 3D, Windows and Web-based) and of managing their environment from Business Process Views.
