Computer Associates Celebrates Expansion of Worldwide Corporate Headquarters.

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), the world's leading provider of business software, today announced a 400,000 square foot expansion of its corporate headquarters. The expansion, dubbed dub 1

 Project Acorn, will feature new office and research-and-development facilities, a state-of-the-art technical training center, an international food court and an enlarged indoor/outdoor fitness center. CA is also expanding its award-winning Montessori-based child development center, making it one of the largest in the Northeast.

The new construction will accommodate an additional 1,000 employees over the next year. Within the next 10 years, CA expects to have more than 8,000 employees on Long Island. CA's existing 720,000 sq. ft. facility currently houses more than 2,300 employees, a three-fold increase since it opened in 1992. CA employs more than 11,000 people worldwide.

When Project Acorn is complete, CA will have one of the largest child development centers in the Northeast, with capacity for 400 children. It will also be one of the largest Montessori centers for infants six weeks of age through kindergarten. The center will more than double in size to 53,000 square-feet, complete with a wading pool, a new 30,000 sq. ft. playground and additional classrooms. Summer and holiday programs for children ages 6-15 will also be expanded.

CA's indoor fitness center, which includes basketball and racquetball racquetball, sport played indoors by two or four players, combining elements of court handball and such racket games as squash racquets. It is played on a standard handball court 40 ft (12.2 m) long, 20 ft (6.  courts and an aerobics area, will be enlarged to accommodate additional cardiovascular and weight training equipment, and expanded locker and shower rooms. The company recently added a soccer field to its outdoor fitness area, which also includes tennis and basketball courts, a softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  field and a jogging track.

CA is also expanding software training classes for both staff and clients by adding an innovative 45,000 square-foot training center that will provide the network and desktop tools necessary to keep up with changing technology.

A new 45,000 square-foot CA restaurant will feature aerial views of southern Long Island, indoor and outdoor dining areas and a roof top garden. In keeping with CA's multi-national employee population and global market reach, the restaurant will also feature international cuisine. CA already provides free breakfast for employees.

Park-like facilities, weatherproof passageways, and a new parking garage are also being constructed.
