Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced the availability of its Unicenter TNG Framework, an open, cross-platform enterprise management infrastructure that helps clients and third-party vendors create IT management applications that work together in a cohesive fashion.

CA is the first vendor to offer an IT management framework with all the services and tools necessary for deploying customized management applications on all the industry's leading operating systems and hardware platforms. It includes services for event management, discovery services, scheduling, manager/agent and 2-D, 3-D and Web GUI, along with an industry-standard object repository to simplify the integration of application messages and events from many different management products.

This gives CA partners and clients an open platform for building and extending enterprise management software. More than 200 partners have created solutions that work with the Unicenter TNG Framework.

"Past frameworks have been long on promise and short on delivery. They were missing the necessary services and development tools and didn't support all the major computer platforms, such as multiple UNIX platforms and Windows NT.

CA offers more than 50 management functions built on the Unicenter TNG Framework, which enables integration with Unicenter TNG at the GUI, object repository and management services levels such as event, scheduling, discovery and virus-detection: -0-

-- GUI Services-providing a single unified console for status monitoring and management of the entire IT infrastructure. The GUI is designed for extensibility to integrate third-party applets and platform-specific tools as necessary.

-- Object Repository-easing the integration of managed objects into Unicenter TNG. The repository includes the meta data class definitions, managed objects, relationships, aggregation and Business Process Views.

-- Event Management-providing a single, unified mechanism for event trapping, logging, forwarding and automated actions. This includes standard SNMP events as well as vendor-defined database and application events.

-- Scheduling Services-providing a central calendar that can be leveraged by external system events or third-party applications. Automated actions can be triggered based upon conditional calendar logic.

-- Discovery Services-includes tools to catalogue the entire IT environment, helping clients manage all of their hardware, software and networking assets in a cohesive fashion. The discovery mechanism populates the Unicenter TNG repository with configuration, inventory and topology information, enabling other management tools within the framework to quickly utilize those objects.

-- Virus-Detection Services-automatically detects the existence of viruses throughout the IT environment.
