By migrating the Journal Sentinel's multiple email platforms to a single messaging platform, Microsoft Exchange 2000; and electronic workflow system, IcomXpress(TM); CompuCom helped the subsidiary of Journal Communications, one of the nation's major metropolitan newspapers, enhance productivity by automating many of its formerly paper-based business transactions. Other benefits that the Journal Sentinel expects to gain from CompuCom's Exchange solution are lower end-user training costs and higher system reliability.

"Allowing electronic notification and authorization of historic paper transactions will provide the needed return on investment for this project," said Jim Herzfeld, Vice President of Information Technology at Journal Sentinel. "Our new messaging platform improves the way information is organized and increases the speed of doing business transactions. We also expect to see long term cost improvements in the areas of payroll, finance, advertising and circulation."

CompuCom recommended the Exchange 2000 platform, in conjunction with IcomXpress(TM), based on a thorough assessment of the company's business goals and technology requirements. Using the IcomXpress(TM) software, CompuCom streamlined and automated the flow of transactions, interactions, decisions, tasks, knowledge assets and mission-critical functions for Journal Sentinel.

"The results of the implementation to date have been outstanding," continued Herzfeld. "CompuCom delivered an effective, reliable solution on time and under budget. They went above and beyond the parameters of the project by providing extensive research on product alternatives, which resulted in substantial cost savings."
