The side plate press, developed and patented by this company, is said to have become standard in the rubber industry. Head block, ram cap, side plates and hot plates are machined from solid slabs of quality steel. Flexing under pressure at the head and ram cap is said to be minimal because these parts are solid and not cored. Plus, these materials are rolled or forged instead of cast, to greatly diminish the possibility of hidden defects, according to the company.

The patented tapered key construction pre-stresses the side plate to ensure a tight fit at all times. This design is also said to eliminate difficulties due to inaccuracies when the keyway must be closely machined to fit the key. Corners in the keys and keyways are accurately machined with large fillets to avoid stress concentration at these points, according to the literature. The ram cap and intermediate hot plates are guided on the beveled corners of the side plates by special hardened guide shoes. The clearance between the guide shoe and guiding surface is adjustable, so guides can be reset to compensate for wear.
