ACRISON, INC.

Model 350 multipurpose blender for continuous mixing of dry materials features two concentrically mounted augers that operate at different speeds. Blender can coat pelletized products with lubricant or release agent, blend dry powders into masterbatches, and add lubricants or colors. Output range is 1.2 to 5100 cu ft/hr. Quick-disconnect and sanitary models available.

Continuous blenders are only offered in conjunction with Acrison volumetric and gravimetric feeders and are sold as complete metering/blending systems.

Nonintensive ribbon blenders for dry and dry/liquid blending have capacities of 2 to 680 cu ft and are used for mixing additives and pigments into powders and pellets. Agitator assembly with inner and outer ribbons provides gentle mixing action and is recommended for mixing small amounts of critical ingredients with large amounts of matrix material. Supplies compounding systems for PVC and engineering resins based on Buss kneader and higher-output Quantec kneader, both of which combine a reciprocating single screw with barrel pins.

Quantec-Kneader continuous, reciprocating single-screw compounders mix and disperse thermoplastics and thermosets. Use special profiled screw flights and rows of kneading teeth in the barrel section, plus a reciprocating screw action to provide intensive kneading.

Also supplies discharge extruders and hot-face pelletizers for PVC and various thermoplastic compounds.

Kneader Extruder batch mixer combines mixing and extruding, operates with higher hp, and provides more mastication action. High-hp motor permits polymer dispersion at low temperature, minimizing degradation. Capacities from 1-1000 gal. Applications include polyester premix and color concentrates. Jacketing available.

Three types of motionless mixers improve homogeneity of the melt stream in injection molding machines and extruders: LPD for lower viscosities where pigments are added, ISG for high viscosities, and Blendex-modified ISG for batch or continuous solids/solids blending.

Drais Perl ball mills finely disperse and homogenize high-, medium-, and low-viscosity materials and stiff pastes. Units include perforated or pinned-disc agitator and chamber 80-90% filled with small grinding beads from 0.25- to 2-mm diam. Large number of beads results in very fine grinding and dispersing and is said to increase output by 30-50%. Chamber capacities from 1 to 1500 liters.

Drais turbulent mixer/reactors for high-speed mixing, kneading, and reaction processes have interchangeable mixing elements for powders, pastes, and reaction processes. Farrel Banbury mixer has two counter-rotating rotors manufactured for durability and offering efficient flow of material, short residence time, and high process quality. Major use is in incorporating and dispersing pigments and fillers into plastics and rubber materials.

Farrel Advex systems for advanced post-reactor processing of polymer resins and compounds permit on-line adjustments even of bimodal HDPEs and metallocene-based compounds. Four rotor configurations will shear and homogenize polymers of any viscosity while system accurately controls shear force and temperature. HOCKMEYER EQUIPMENT CORP.

Concentric shaft mixers with high-intensity and slow-speed mixing blades blend dry materials into viscous liquids. Scrape surface agitator and stacked disperser blades maintain uniform mass flow. Mixers handle liquids from 50,000 to 3,000,000 cp.

Double planetary mixers incorporate two sweeper blades traveling on the same axis. Design of the sweep blades lends itself to medium range viscosities. Full coverage of the entire tank and drum surfaces guarantees complete particle uniformity within each batch.

Multishaft mixer systems for high-viscosity applications. Efficient scraper blade is used to move product more efficiently to lower production times and increase batch uniformity. A system has been developed to introduce dry powders below the liquid level when required for environmental reasons.

Horizontal mixer has mixing blades designed for low-intensity mixing of highly viscous products. This design lends itself to heavy, nonflowing materials. Blade design follows the contours of the tank and helps eliminate dead spots. Overlapping arms prevent material build-up. Double rolling action kneads and rubs material against the side of the tank imparting shear and wetting.

Biox proportional fluid blending system provides two-component flow and mixing control accurate to 0.1% at all flow rates. Rates are digitally selected from 0.001 to 999 cc/ min. Mix proportion of A to B is selectable in 0.1% increments. Parameter changes are accomplished via digital thumbwheel switches without stopping the unit. Constant volumetric flow rates are maintained even when liquid proportions are changed. Solidstate electronics, stepping-motor drives, and valveless ceramic pumps reportedly provide accuracy, reliability, and long life.

JIFFY MIXER CO., INC.

Jiffy all-purpose, heavy-duty mixers have vertical and horizontal blades. Two vertical blades confine mixing action within the mixing head while horizontal opposing blades force material from the upper and lower areas of the container inside the head. Leading edge of lower horizontal blade scrapes bottom of the container to bring all settled particles into the head. The ring prevents damage to the blades and puncturing of container walls. Mixers operate with both electric and air-driven chucked power tools and fit all 0.25-to 0.75-in. tools.

KOMAX SYSTEMS, INC.

Complete mixing systems control addition of colors, lubricants, uv stabilizers, and other liquid additives after the extruder. AddMaster 1200 provides the reservoir, pump, and special heaters to supply additive to the injection point while profiling the additive temperature to end up close to that of the polymer melt stream.

Equalizer modular motionless mixer ensures complete mixing of additives in melt stream and consists of stackable modules, which are assembled into their own barrel. Together with an Equalizer, the SIDD (Special Injection and Distribution Device) allows additives, usually of much lower viscosity and flow rate than the main flow, to be introduced into the melt stream. TEDD (Temperature Equalization and Distribution Device) is used in blown film dies to enhance gauge control. Two- or four-module assemblies are installed in the throat of the blown film die or die adapter.

Littleford LM series high-intensity vertical mixers provide controlled, rapid and homogeneous mixing of various plastic resins, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, and pigments in short-mix cycles. Mixing action accomplished by two high-energy converting impellers mounted on a single shaft in a dust-tight vertical mixing cylinder.

Littleford LR series clamshell cooler provides maximum thermal transfer ofheat from the compound into the water-cooled jacket. Mechanically fluidized bed mixing action separates compound particles, putting them into constant movement and introducing them gently and efficiently to the cooler walls. The blend is discharged with the heat transfer tools rotating, preventing compound stratification. This cooling design produces an exceptionally high coefficient of heat transfer. Clamshell opening allows complete access to the interior of the cooler from end to end for cleaning.

Littleford FKM Ploughshare horizontal mixers provide large hatch sizes, highest coefficient of heat transfer, and complete product uniformity in short-cycle times. Mixing action accomplished by a horizontal shaft with ploughshare mixing tools, which revolve at high-rate speeds, creating mechanical fluidized-bed mixing action.

Mixer may be complemented by independent high-speed choppers adding more energy to the process when additional sheer is required.

CMP-X series of corotating twin-rotor continuous mixers with gear pumps is based on company's CIM (continuous intensive mixer) technology. Standard models range from 65-to 305-mm rotor diam. Largest model has max. rotor speed of 215 rpm, 11,000-hp drive, and throughput to about 88,000 lb/hr. Clearance between screws and barrel wall can be adjusted by a slot-control mechanism.
