) practices among utility companies. The study will examine supply chain management practices of the utility industry to gain a better understanding of the field.

"Today's pressure on the utility industry is to improve competitiveness," said Kevin M. Johnson of Hagler Bailly. "Supply chain management is emerging as one of the greatest challenges facing today's utility management. As the utility industry focuses on reducing the cost of electric service and improving service levels to customers, effective supply chain management is at the core of achieving these objectives."

"No industry is undergoing more radical change than the utility industry," added Kevin McCormack, CBSI vice president who leads the company's SCM practice area. "As utilities move from a regulated to an unregulated business environment, their whole supply chain changes with it -- particularly how utilities distribute their products and services to customers. By participating in this study, utility management will be better able to identify and use best industry practices."

Hagler Bailly will lead the utility benchmark study. It will combine the utility experience of its subsidiary, Theodore Barry & Associates, with methodology developed by CBSI and the Supply Chain Council, a multi-industry group dedicated to improving SCM practices and creating industry standards.

Results of the best practice portion of the survey will be presented at the Supply Chain Council meeting in April. Utility professionals interested in participating in the study should contact Kevin M. Johnson at kjohnson@haglerbailly.com or 212/265-5005.
