Competitive Automation Furthers Worldwide DHCP Acceptance With International Distribution Agreements in Europe, Asia.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1997--Competitive Automation, Inc., the pioneer in commercializing the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (protocol) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - (DHCP) A protocol that provides a means to dynamically allocate IP addresses to computers on a local area network. The system administrator assigns a range of IP addresses to DHCP and each client computer on the LAN has its TCP/IP  (DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers. ), has expanded its worldwide business with distribution agreements in Turkey, Switzerland, and Korea. Combined with a previously-announced OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  arrangement in Japan, the new distributorships put Competitive Automation in the international forefront for delivering TCP/IP TCP/IP

 network access.

The new agreements reflect increasing global demand for the TCP/IP internetworking protocol. The distribution agreements include Sebit Ltd. (Turkey), Uniguide Systems Corp. (Korea), and CEMAG (Switzerland). In 1995, Competitive Automation signed a licensing arrangement with Takaoka Electric Manufacturing Company, bringing DHCP to the X-mint product line of the Japanese terminal manufacturer.

"TCP/IP is experiencing explosive worldwide growth," said Laird McCulloch, president of Competitive Automation. "These new distribution agreements will bring our proven solution, JOIN, to a marketplace that has been demanding easier access to the Internet and TCP/IP-based intranets. Our new distribution partners will keep us in the forefront of delivering DHCP to the international market, while enabling their customers to effortlessly configure their network devices and add them to networks as needed as needed prn. See prn order. ."

Competitive Automation was the first independent software company to deliver an implementation of DHCP, starting with OEM arrangements with SunSoft, RDI RDI - Receiver Data Interface  Computers, Wollongong (now Attachmate), Tektronix, and Digital Equipment. The end-user version of the company's software, called JOIN, became available in 1995, and is in use at such well-known companies as Texas Instruments, 3Com, AT&T, and the New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 Times.

Earlier this year, dynamic updating of the JOIN domain name system (DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the ) became available.

DHCP automates the addition of computers, peripherals, and nomadic devices to TCP/IP networks. When done manually, this process can be slow and error-prone, and requires hands-on assistance from system administrators. Facilitating the addition or relocation of devices has helped assure the ever increasing acceptance of TCP/IP.

In a large TCP/IP network, it can take anywhere from hours to several days before a system administrator can visit each device and reconfigure or otherwise redefine devices attached to a new server. DHCP also eliminates one potential cause of network service interruption: when end-users have attempted this task themselves, there have been occurrences of duplicate IP addresses, resulting in server and network crashes.

With Competitive Automation's DHCP technology, there's no reason to wait to accomplish the sign-on and configuration tasks: they are performed automatically by the software installed on servers and clients.
