Competition dropouts.I am the owner of a dance studio in Allentown, PA, as well as the director of a college dance program. I attended the UNITY panel discussion at the NDEO NDEO National Dance Education Organization (US) conference last June in Providence, RI. I was unaware of the advocating UNITY does for stronger dance-related connections between private studios, elementary, junior and high schools, as well as higher education higher education Study beyond the level of secondary education. Institutions of higher education include not only colleges and universities but also professional schools in such fields as law, theology, medicine, business, music, and art. . I am also a very strong advocate of this. I recently read your article "Questioning the Quest for Verb 1. quest for - go in search of or hunt for; "pursue a hobby" quest after, go after, pursue look for, search, seek - try to locate or discover, or try to establish the existence of; "The police are searching for clues"; "They are searching for the Gold" (October 2003, page 54). I quickly copied it for my studio teaching staff. We attend 2 competitions per year due to "patron demand." When I first opened nay nay adv. 1. No: All but four Democrats voted nay. 2. And moreover: He was ill-favored, nay, hideous. n. 1. A denial or refusal. studio I used competitions as a learning tool for my students. I don't take that approach any more because they have lost their educational appeal, and instead have created a generation of "gotta got·ta Informal Contraction of got to: I gotta go home. win" dancers and "gotta win" parents. I respect Rhee Gold's decision and I applaud his agreeing to a published interview on the subject. ROBIN GERCHMAN ALLENTOWN, PA |
