AL Zamil Metal Works Factory (AZMWF), a prominent player in designing, manufacturing and installation of steel storage tanks in Saudi Arabia in the GCC region, has embarked on a major plant upgradation exercise at its facility in Jeddah.

Located in the Industrial City Area Phase 5 and spread over an area of 50,000 sq mtrs, AZMWF facility has a production capacity of 1000 tonne per month. The companyCOs production in the year 2006 hit 14,000 tonnes while in the year 2007, it touched 17,500 tonnes. With the ongoing boom in business, Al Zamil looks to hit a target of 25,000 tonnes in the next two years. The company which has recently won a clutch of big ticket projects like PetroRabigh tanks project is taking big strides to be ahead of its competition. Plant modernisation To improve its production process and quality, the company has recently acquired new plant and machinery including a new plate bending machine from FACCIN in Italy (110mm thickx3m wide plate) in addition to an automated CNC bending machine (6 metre long x 16mm thick plate). AZMWF which has always adopted a revolutionary approach towards steel products manufacturing has also modernised its plant by acquiring shop blast recovery equipment for better quality painting. Other than these, the company has also bought profile bending machine ranging upto 400mm bending capacity. As part of its ongoing plant upgradation plan, AZMWF will be acquiring two mobile cranes with a capacity of 55 tonnes and 90 tonnes, in addition to an automatic structural profile machine, next year. The company is also planning to install new 400MM pipe/profile bender by the end of this year. Quest for Quality Established in 1980, AZMWF over the years, has strived to achieve significantly high standards in manufacturing and today it conforms to international standards. Today, the company designs, fabricates and erects tanks according to the international standards of API 650 and API 653; pressure tanks according to ASME CyUCO stamp and does metallic repair for boilers and pressure vessels according to ASME CyRCO stamp. Prestigious Projects In addition to catering to the booming local projects in Saudi Arabia for companies like Aramco, SWCC, SEC,Sabic, Maaden, PetroRabigh(Sumitomo and Whessoe Al-Rushaid), Aramco Luberef and Khafji Joint Operations and SAVOLA /USC, AZMWF has won many new prestigious projects in the recent past. To start with, the company has won an order to supply and fabricate 4000 tonnes of steel (non-pressure part and appurtenances) for Shuqaiq-II project in Saudi Arabia from JapanCOs Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Work on the contract awarded in February and to be completed by mid 2009 has already started, says the company. The MHI contract has come following the completion of its earlier project for fabrication of 19 tanks at PetroRabigh by AZMWF. C[pounds sterling]MHI was pleased with our fabrication work for their 19 tanks at PetroRabigh which has been completed. They have now awarded us the 3000 tonnes of steel work in Shuaiq IWPP project in Saudi Arabia,C[yen] says Capt Tabei. The company has also recently completed an order for fabricating and erecting 12 stainless steel tanks at PetroRabigh for Sumitomo Tanks through the UK-based Whessoe Oil & Gas Ltd. At present, Al-Zamil is working on another contract for 22 tanks and their accessories for Whessoe Oil & Gas, Capt Al-Tabei adds. Future plans Thought at present, the group is 100 per cent owned by the Saudi Arabia-based promoter Abdullah I Al Zamil, it is considering entering into an alliance with a large company in the immediate future. C[pounds sterling]We are looking at joining hands with a big company which has a large project and needs local efficient fabricators and erectors to execute their project. This way the company will minimise its factory establishment by joining hands with a company like ours which has more than 25 years of experience in tanks and structures fabrication and erection in addition to having our own facility, staff and offices,C[yen] says Capt Al-Tabei. The company already has a few tie-ups with many reputed global companies operating in the sector. AZMWF, at present, represents global majors like Robson, Gemco, Street Crane and BYGGWIK as their sole distributor in Saudi Arabia. Further, although the company has been invited to execute the Savola Sugar refinery in Egypt Ain AlCoSoukha, for the time being it plans to focus on the booming business at home. C[pounds sterling]We plan to first improve and modernise our factory equipment and carnage facilities and manpower skills to execute these projects.C[yen] The company immediately has no plans to diversify into any other business. Instead it will concentrate on steel fabrication and erection and tank mechanical maintenance works and also increase its steel fabrication capacity at its Jeddah factory, says Capt Tabei. Fully owned by Abdullah I Al Zamil, Al Zamil Metal Works Factory (AZMWF) today is one of the leadng steel fabricator and Contractor Erector company with its two subsidiary companies: AZTRACON is the contracting establishment and the Scaffolding manufacturer.
