Compatible Systems adds 56K CSU DSU to wide area product line.

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1995--Companies looking to install high-speed leased line A private communications channel leased from a common carrier. Most digital lines require four wires (two pairs) for full-duplex transmission.

(communications, networking) leased line
and frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers.  connections between Local Area Networks (LANs) or between corporate LANs and the Internet now have a single vendor solution. Compatible Systems Corporation today announced that it has introduced a 56 Kbps Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit (communications, hardware) channel service unit/data service unit - (CSU/DSU, or "..digital..") A device that performs both the channel service unit (CSU) and data service unit (DSU) functions.  (CSU/DSU See DSU/CSU.

) for use with its MicroRouter 900i and 1000R wide area routers. The CSU/DSU will work with any 4-wire 56 Kbps service.

CSU/DSUs are used to connect customer equipment such as a router to the local digital telephone loop. Customers can lease these digital phone lines from a telco and use them to connect two offices to each other. Digital leased lines can also be used to connect a customer site to a frame relay switch provided by a carrier.

``As network interconnectivity becomes a larger force in business communication plans, many companies are migrating from connection over analog lines to higher speed digital lines and frame relay,'' said Matt McConnell, president of Compatible Systems. ``Our customers were having difficulty locating CSU/DSUs through the reseller channel. This product is designed to make it that much easier for those customers by offering everything they need through a single vendor.''

The CSU/DSU will primarily be used in installations featuring either the Compatible Systems MicroRouter 900i, a standalone IP router A router that is set up to route IP packets. See router and IP.  designed to connect a corporate Ethernet to the Internet, or the MicroRouter 1000R, a multiprotocol router for connecting corporate Ethernet segments over a wide area link. The MicroRouter 1000R supports the IPX (Internetwork Packet EXchange) The network layer protocol in the NetWare operating system. Similar to the IP layer in TCP/IP, it contains a network address and allows messages to be routed to a different network or subnet. , IP, AppleTalk and DECnet protocols.

Founded in 1985, Compatible Systems designs, manufactures, and markets a full line of easy-to-use routers for growing networks, with an installed base of more than 5,000. All routers include the Integrated Support Plan, a premium service policy that features a three-year warranty, unlimited toll-free phone support, and software upgrades for the life of the product. Additional support and software downloads are available to customers via an Internet FTP server, CompuServe, the Compatible Systems bulletin board and ARA Ara or Arrah (both: ŭ`rə), city (1991 pop. 157,082), Bihar state, NE India, on the Son Canal.
