CompassionKaty.org Announces 2nd Annual "Katy ServeFest: Compassion in Action", Community Volunteer Effort to Benefit Calvin Nelms Charter School.

KATY, Texas -- Area churches and community leaders formally announced an effort to beautify and support Calvin Nelms Charter School located at 20625 Clay Road in Katy with an "Extreme Makeover" type of experience that is this year's "Katy ServeFest", a compassion in action project. The kick-off was held at The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch on Sunday afternoon, June 10th, as area churches and members gathered to celebrate last years inaugural Katy ServeFest and to plan and prepare for this year's event.

"We want the community at large to know that they can make a difference in their city and have fun doing it," says Diane Walker, Executive Director of CompassionKaty.org. "Last year we helped Faith West with a similar type of volunteer event and the results were amazing," says Mrs. Walker, a Katy resident. "The school officials and families were impressed with the difference our community volunteers made to the overall improvement of their school," she said.

The "Extreme Makeover" type project at Calvin Nelms Charter School will include landscaping work, painting, remodeling, school preparation support for oncoming students, and more, starting July 28th and August 4th from 8am to 5pm. All work is pre-planned in 4-hour increments and tailored to the volunteer's talents and abilities. CompassionKaty.org will also accept financial donations to support this effort specifically.

"We plan to produce an entertaining and informative video on-line documenting our community involvement," says Mrs. Walker. "We are planning to celebrate the final work with a 'Compassion Katy ServeFest Concert' featuring 'Bended Knee' and other bands." Local radio station KSBJ and Chick-fil-A are also supporting partners of "Katy ServeFest 2008."

CompassionKaty.org a not-for-profit organization was launched as a community ministry by The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Compassion Katy's purpose is to serve as a portal between churches and Christ followers in the community and need meeting groups and agencies in and around Katy. To date Compassion Katy has helped over 1,500 Katrina evacuees with the help of hundreds of volunteers from local churches through the city. CompassionKaty.org, has helped volunteers and community ministries including, Katy Christian Ministries, Breath of Life Children's Clinic, Katy Home Savers, the YMCA, Katy Independent School District, the Krause Center, Pregnancy Help Center, and many others.
