Its subsidiary, Compass Bank, is a Southwestern financial holding company with $47 billion in assets and 417 full-service banking offices in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. Upon completion of this purchase and the recently announced acquisition of Texas American Bank in San Antonio, Compass will operate 16 bank offices in Texas' third largest city. In addition to Coastal and Texas American, Compass also has signed agreements to purchase Peoples Bancshares Inc. in central Texas, Royall Financial Corp. in east Texas, Texas American Bank in San Antonio and ProBank in Houston. The transaction will nearly double Compass' Jacksonville size and increase its Florida assets by more than 50 percent.
