improved to 84.5% in the second quarter of 2000 from 72.6% in the year ago period. However, due to a delay in closing two planned acquisitions which were expected to provide the Company with immediate earnings and the Company's planned investment in personnel and infrastructure, Compass reported a net loss for the second quarter of 2000 of $69,955 compared to net income of $62,663 in the comparable quarter of 1999.

For the first six months of 2000, total revenue rose 12% to $1,426,527 compared with $1,273,164 in the first six months of 1999. Gross profit margins improved to 78.2% in the first six months of the year from 76.0% in the year ago period. For the first six months of the year, the net loss was $26,721 vs. a net income of $176,930 in the first six months of 1999. This loss is attributed primarily to the same factors that resulted in a loss in the second quarter.

We have made upgrades to our marketing, knowledge partner development, curriculum design and information technology systems as well as adding three new senior executives. Looking toward the second half of this year, we anticipate strong growth in revenues as new courses are added to our three core business segments of Health, Education and Law, and our student enrollment in current programs continues to increase."
