Compass Bancshares Signs Agreement to Acquire $880 Million FirsTier Corporation in Greater Denver.

with purchase of fastest-growing independent bank in Colorado

After entering the Denver market earlier this year, Sunbelt-based Compass Bancshares Compass Bancshares, Inc. is a privately held company based in Birmingham, Alabama. Its subsidiary, Compass Bank, is a Southwestern financial holding company with $47 billion in assets and 417 full-service banking offices in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. , Inc. ) today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Denver-based FirsTier Corporation.

FirsTier Corporation is the parent company of FirsTier Bank, an $800 million asset bank with 17 full-service banking offices in the greater Denver area located along the rapidly expanding I-25 corridor from Colorado Springs Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. It is a year-round resort and a booming military, technological, and commercial city.  to Fort Collins. FirsTier Corporation is also the parent company of Firstate Bank, an $80 million asset bank with two full-service offices in western and central Nebraska.

Under terms of the definitive agreement, Compass will exchange approximately 6,800,000 shares of its common stock for all of the outstanding shares of FirsTier Corporation.
